Tuesday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time
Homily Starter
- Even Ahab: The mercy met the sackcloth. Preach the availability of repentance even to the one who gave themselves up to evil - not as cheap grace but as the genuine mercy that responds to the genuine humbling. Who is the Ahab in this parish who needs to hear both the prophet's word and the mercy's availability?
- Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect: The completeness of love, not moral flawlessness. Preach the Father's sun and rain as the model: uncalibrated, reaching all sides. Challenge the parish to identify where their love stops - where the edge is, past which the giving does not go. The enemy is always beyond that edge.
- Pray for those who persecute you: The prayer for the persecutor's sackcloth, not their defeat. Preach the difference: praying that they repent and are humbled is the love command; praying that they suffer is the retaliation command. Challenge the parish to examine their prayers for enemies.
