- He burned the equipment: The irreversibility of the yes. Preach the sealing of commitment - not just the intention but the act that removes the means of return. Where has the parish's yes been incomplete because the equipment is still there? Challenge them to name the oxen they haven't slaughtered yet.
- Then he followed as his attendant: Not immediately in the prophetic role. Preach the formation phase - the attending, the learning, the carrying of the cloak before the carrying of the mantle. Challenge those who want the mantle before the attending.
- Let your yes mean yes: The character behind the word. Preach the interior consistency that produces the reliable exterior word. The person who swears by heaven is admitting their ordinary word is insufficient. Challenge the parish to build the character that doesn't need the oath - by keeping the small yeses, completing the ordinary commitments, being the person whose word holds.
