- Not because you are the largest: The election based on love rather than merit is the foundation of everything. Preach the Sacred Heart as the mystery of being chosen precisely in your smallness - not despite it, in it. The heart that loved the smallest nation loves the smallest person in the pew. Challenge the parish to receive the love that does not depend on their size or merit.
- In this is love - not that we loved God but that he loved us first: The direction of love is the whole theology. Preach the Sacred Heart as the physical expression of God's initiative - the heart opened before we asked, the blood and water flowing before we understood what they were. Challenge the parish to love first in the specific relationships where they have been waiting for the other to love first.
- God is love - whoever remains in love remains in God: The remaining in love is the daily spiritual practice of the Sacred Heart devotion. Preach the ordinary mysticism of the loving household, the loving community, the sustained choosing of love in ordinary relationships. The extraordinary is what happens inside the ordinary remaining.
- They shall look upon him whom they have pierced: The Sacred Heart devotion is contemplation. Preach the looking - the sustained attention to the opened heart, the blood and water, the testimony that is true. Challenge the parish to look today - five minutes of actual contemplation, not analysis.
